The State of Incarceration.

The fifty first state of the union?  The number of people locked in our jails and correctional institutions now rivals the populations of many of our states.  Many of these people have never been convicted of a crime.  According to US law we are innocent until proven guilty but you couldn't perceive that inside our jails.

Revolving door justice. And the people who run most of our jails today want to make it spin faster and faster. The "regional" jails that are springing up all over the country are run by corporations that improve their bottom lines by increasing the populations of the jails they run. In one of these jails alone millions of dollars were gained on the outrageous cost of phone calls inmates make to friends and family. To allow gross profiteering to be perpetrated agains these people I believe is a crime as wrong as the one that placed inmates there in the first place. A ten minute phone call home, to a bondsmen, to a lawyer can cost $50.00 whether or not it is a collect call. Prisoners can pay into an account from which this extortion money is collected. AT&T is the entity that profits from most of this but they hide that fact by using surrogate company names.

We are footing the bill for this racket either directly or indirectly!

Jails are big buisness Start one today! And suck the life right out of America!

Shall we continue to curse the darkness or shall we light a candle?
